Cardinal Sports Report: September 4 – September 10

Football opened their season at Cardinal Stadium against McDaniel. The Cardinals’ first touchdown of the season came in the first quarter when freshman quarterback Brady McBride found senior wide receiver Cade Chrebet for a 15-yard pass. With the score tied at 7-7, freshman kicker Brent Fardette III scored the first field goal of his collegiate career to give the Cardinals the win. Catholic goes on the road to face Capital this Saturday, September 13.
Women’s Golf began the 2025 season this past weekend at the Shenandoah Invitational. The Cardinals shot 335 as a team on day one, positioning them in ninth place out of thirteen teams. On day two, Catholic improved on their score, shooting 314 as a team, moving them up into a fourth place finish. Senior Brooke Smith shot a 76 on day one and a 74 on day two, the latter the eighth-best score in program history. The Cardinals’ next match is next Saturday, September 13, at the Battle of the Beltway.
Men’s Golf also started their season this past weekend with their first match at the Dickinson Fall Invitational. On day one, the Cardinals shot a 294 followed by a 295 on day two. With the lowest two-round score in program history, Catholic finished sixth out of twenty-one teams. Junior Joe Earley shot a 71 on day one and a 69 on day two to tie the tenth-best round in program history. The Cardinals return to action on Thursday, September 18, at the Susquehanna Fall Invitational.
Volleyball held their season opener this past Saturday in a tri-match against Eastern and FDU-Florham. The Cardinals fell 0-3 in the match against Eastern, with sophomores Julia Raab and Laci Freitas leading the team with nine kills each while freshman Alejandra Garcia led the team with eighteen digs. In a 3-1 victory against FDU-Florham, Raab again led the team with sixteen kills, while Garcia matched her eighteen-dig total from the previous match to lead the team once again. The Cardinals take the court again this Saturday, September 13, in a tri-match against Rowan and Lebanon Valley.
Field Hockey fell in a narrow 0-1 match at home against Dickinson before dropping a game on the road at Bridgewater with a score of 0-2. The Cardinals return home this Saturday, September 13, to play Franklin & Marshall.
Men’s Soccer continued their dominant start to the season with a resounding 4-0 victory on the road against DeSales. Sophomore Graham Leary opened the scoring with the first goal of his collegiate career in the first half, and junior Azaria Tewodros doubled the lead with his first goal of the season. A red card was shown to a DeSales player for a foul inside the penalty box, and Tewodros converted the ensuing penalty kick to extend the Cardinals’ lead to three before halftime. Freshman Christian Backich scored in the second half to cement the lead. The Cardinals were ranked #19 in the first United Soccer Coaches poll of the season and return to action at home this Saturday, September 13, to face off against Washington and Lee.
Women’s Soccer found their first road win of the season in a 3-1 match at Haverford. Junior Angelina Serrano found the back of the net in the fifteenth minute, while senior Teighan Boyle’s goal in the sixty-first minute gave the Cardinals their first multiple-goal game of the season. Senior Isabel Doherty extended the goal tally to three, securing a win for the Cardinals. On Wednesday night, Catholic hosted Marymount in a Pope’s Cup matchup. After conceding a goal in the first half, junior Kelsie Price scored for the Cardinals in the second half to tie the game at 1-1. The score remained level for the rest of the match. The Cardinals have the first of four consecutive road games this weekend when they take on Gettysburg.
