10 Mocktail Recipes For College Students

Being a college student under 21 years old can be difficult because of the added pressure from peers to partake in underage drinking. Mocktails are a great way to enjoy fancier drinks without the need for alcohol. College campuses across the nation have been promoting mocktails through on-campus events to promote healthy drinking habits. Catholic University hosted a student organization mocktail competition event in the Pryzbyla Center last semester, awarding money to the top contenders for their organization. If you are interested in trying a popular drink without alcohol, grab a couple of friends and try out one of these mocktail recipes.
Jalapeño Watermelon Agua Fresca:
First, make a jalapeño simple syrup by mixing a cup of water and ½ a cup of sugar in a small saucepan. Heat until simmer stir until sugar is dissolved. Halve jalapeños and add them to the saucepan. After five minutes remove jalapeños and steep them in syrup for ten minutes. Remove peppers before using the syrup. Get started on the drink by mixing cubed and seedless watermelons (4 cups), coconut water (1 cup), and the jalapeño simple syrup (¼ cup), then put in a blender for about 1 minute. Add ice and serve with lemon for an extra tang.

Pretty in Pink:
Mix 1 ½ ounces of grapefruit juice, ¾ ounces of lime juice, 1 ounce of simple syrup, and mint in a shaker with ice.

Copa Verde:
Mix half an avocado, ¼ cup of water, a lime, and ¼ cup of agave nectar in a blender or shaker. Once smooth, add ice and shake together. Pour into a glass and add 2-4 tablespoons of club soda, depending on how thin you want the consistency of the drink to be.

Pink “Not Champagne”:
Mix 1 ½ cups of chilled sparkling cider, 1 ½ cups of sparkling cherry-flavored mineral water, 1 cup of cranberry juice. If sparkling cherry-flavored mineral water is not accessible, you can also add club soda and mix it with 1 tablespoon of cherry flavoring syrup.

Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri:
Mix 1 ounce of lime juice, 3 ounces of frozen and sliced strawberries, and 2 teaspoons of sugar in a blender with crushed ice. Wait for the liquid to be smooth, but if it is too thick, add some water. Garnish with extra strawberries or mint.

Start with 12 ounces of chilled orange juice, add ¼ teaspoon of grenadine syrup, add 12 ounces of chilled ginger ale, and mix with ice cubes. Garnish with orange wheels.

Strawberry Lime Mojito Mocktail:
Place stemless strawberries and mint leaves into a pitcher. Muddle the fruit and mint together with a wooden spoon. Make sure not to tear the leaves too much. Add ⅛ cup of lime juice, or ¼ cup if you prefer something more sour. Then add 12 ounces of Sprite to the pitcher. Make sure to also put 2 tablespoons of sugar. Stir everything together and then add crushed ice. Garnish with mint leaves and a strawberry.

Shirley Temple Mocktail:
Pour 2 ½ tablespoons of grenadine into a large glass or a pitcher. Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and then 1 tablespoon of lime juice. Make sure to mix and then add 6 tablespoons of club soda. Add ice and stir. Garnish with cherries.
Virgin Mary:
Squeeze half a lemon into a pitcher, and then add salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly before adding two dashes of tabasco sauce. Tear and then add 4 basil leaves. Add 180 milliliters of tomato juice and then add ice. Stir, and if add a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Put liquid in a shaker and shake well, pour contents in a glass with a strainer. Garnish with celery, basil leaves, lemon, and –if desired– pickles.

Pineapple Orange Mocktail:
Crush pieces of ice and then put them in a glass along with 1 cup of fresh pineapple juice. Pour ¼ cup of orange juice afterward, and then add 1 teaspoon of honey. Shake well and serve. Garnish with cilantro.
