If you are a wine enthusiast, this weekend you will be able to enjoy one of the district’s finest events to enjoy some vino glasses. This weekend on Saturday and Sunday, the 42nd Annual Virginia Wine Festival will be held in Oronoco Bay Park in Alexandria, Virginia.

This is the oldest wine festival celebrated on the east coast. The event will be featuring wines from Virginia’s finest vineyards. It is safe to say that the best wine in the country comes from the west coast but that does not mean the east coast wine does not deserve the same recognition. In fact, Virginia is the 5th largest producer of wine in the country. They’re all relatively close to our city too! A selection of more than 150 wines are expected to be served in the event and are all included in the admissions ticket.

This wine festival will be held in Old Town Alexandria, a quaint little getaway close to the city. If what you want this weekend is to escape from the buzz of the city, this is a plan worth considering. The venue for the event is a park called Oronoco Bay Park which, if the name does not give it away, is located by the salty waters of Virginia. With an open field of grassy fields and the breeze of the bay, this park will be a great spot to relax and enjoy a good time. All this scenery plus wine and music is set to make for a wonderful weekend experience!

If wine tasting by the shore in a park is not enough to sell this event for you, this year the Wine Festival has invited the Virginia Oyster Pavilion. They will be offering the Chesapeake Bay’s finest oysters and other seafood platters at the event. The oysters are included in the admissions packages to access the event. Also, if you enjoy craft beer there will be beer trucks in the event as well!
The general admissions ticket costs $35 if bought in advance, $45 at the gate, and includes an unlimited supply of wine. This deserves to be repeated — an unlimited supply of wine plus the selection of oysters that will be brought to the event. For more information on other admissions packages and the event itself you can check it out on Facebook!
