Softball dueled with the Washington (M.D.) Shorewomen in a Wednesday home doubleheader. Catholic took Game 1 easily, winning 10-2 after just five innings of play. Sophomore RHP Sophia Colangelo came out slinging from the circle. Through 5 innings, Colangelo struck out five batters and allowed just 4 hits. The Cardinals were able to stampede the shorewomen early; they took a 5-0 lead in the first, and developed a 7-2 lead after two innings. While five different Cardinals all had multi-hit days, senior shortstop Katie Scolese led the way with a brilliant 3 RBI performance. In Game 2, Catholic picked up right where they left off, and defeated Washington College 7-1. Junior RHP Alex Pley followed in Colangelo’s footsteps, pitching 5 innings while surrendering 4 hits. Junior catcher Katie McHugh kicked off this contest with an emphatic 2-run homer, which was carried by the chilly spring wind over the left-center field fence. Sophomore center fielder Geneva Webber came through with a 3-hit game. Junior 1B/OF Grace Christie joined McHugh with a 2 RBI performance of her own, courtesy of a double she demolished in the fourth. Sophomore RHP Morgan O’Sullivan pitched an efficient two innings, and allowed just one hit to close it out for Catholic. The Cardinals improved their record to 9-5 on the season, including a 6-4 record at home. Catholic softball will face off in their first conference matchup this Saturday as they take on the Lycoming Warriors for a Saturday evening road doubleheader.
