Cardinal Sports Report: October 23 to October 29

Men’s Golf competed in the Landmark Conference Preview over the weekend. The Cardinals shot a 628 as a team over two days to place sixth out of the ten teams in the Landmark Conference. Junior Joe Earley a 153 over two rounds to finish in seventh overall. With the fall golf season coming to an end, the Cardinals will return for the championship season in the spring.
Women’s Golf also competed in the Landmark Conference Preview. Over two rounds, the Cardinals shot a 653 to place first out of ten teams. Junior Gaby Courtney shot a 159 over two rounds to finish second overall, and senior Brooke Smith shot a 162 to finish fourth. Senior Lauren Wright, junior Mary McGuire, and freshman Meghan Mullen all tied for tenth overall after each shooting a 170. The Cardinals will return for the championship season in the spring.
Volleyball went on the road last Saturday to face off against the Pratt Institute and Marymount in a tri-match. The Cardinals swept Pratt 3-0, and sophomore Julia Raab led the team with 10 kills and 6 digs. In the second match of the day, Catholic picked up another sweep, defeating Marymount 3-0. Sophomore Mariana Roman Cruz led the team with 10 kills, and Raab again led the team with 10 digs. The Cardinals return to action this Friday, October 31, on the road against Elizabethtown.
Field Hockey hosted Scranton last Saturday. The Cardinals fell 3-1, but a goal by junior Bella Reyes took her total on the season to four, taking the lead for the team. On Wednesday night, Catholic went on the road for their last regular season match of the year. They picked up a 2-0 win against Juniata, with goals by junior Lauren Keast and sophomore Katie Flynn. The Cardinals finished the season with a 3-13 overall record, going 3-6 in Landmark Conference play.
Football went on the road to face off against Susquehanna. Freshman quarterback Charles Gulbin rushed for a one-yard touchdown at the end of the first half and found senior wide receiver Cade Chrebet in the end zone to open the second half, but the Cardinals ultimately fell 13-69. They will return to action this Saturday, November 1, for their final home game of the season against Lycoming.
Women’s Soccer went on the road last Saturday to face off against conference leaders Scranton. The match ended 0-0, largely thanks to senior goalkeeper Ava Rieger’s season-high twelve saves. Rieger was named the Landmark Conference’s Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week after picking up her sixth shutout on the season. On Tuesday night, the Cardinals hosted Juniata in the final match of the regular season. Catholic picked up a 3-0 win with goals from senior Sam Cesario and juniors Kelsie Price and Angelina Serrano. The Cardinals finished the regular season with a 9-6-3 overall record, going 6-1-2 in Landmark Conference play, which earned them the third seed in the conference. #3 Catholic will host #6 Drew in the first round of the Landmark Conference Women’s Soccer Championships this Saturday, November 1.
Men’s Soccer went on the road last Saturday to play #16 Scranton in a Landmark Conference battle between the top two teams in the standings. Junior goalkeeper Owen Allegro made a season-high six saves, and the match ended 0-0. Allegro was named the Landmark Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week, the time he received this honor in his career. On Tuesday night, the Cardinals went on the road to face Juniata. Junior Donik Elshani scored just seconds into the second half to give Catholic the 1-0 win. The Cardinals finished the regular season with a 11-0-6 overall record, going 6-0-3 in Landmark Conference play. This marks the fourth straight regular season that Catholic went undefeated in regular season conference play, going 39 straight Landmark Conference games and 28 straight regular season games without a loss. The Cardinals earned the two seed in the conference and a first-round bye in the playoffs. They will host the winner of the match between #3 Moravian and #6 Lycoming next Wednesday, November 5.
