Folger Shakespeare Library brings west coast Shakespeare to DC with the stormy tale of Pericles

The production opened on November 13 and features the original cast from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Direction is by Joseph Haj, a director who’s work has appeared at the Folger before-and to much acclaim.

Pericles tells the churning story of a man and his life. Pericles, prince of Tyre, is chased by the wicked king of Antioch. He finds love, but then loses her–and their child– on the high seas. Fancy silks work and pirates are included.

Portions of the ticket proceeds will go to benefit the UNHCR/UN Refugee Agency. Funds will support work being done to help  refugees and people displaced by violence, conflict, and persecution from such places as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.

The production runs through December 20th.
