Two violent crimes near Catholic University are under investigation this week.
The Metropolitan Police Department said it is investigating a shooting that happened in the 3200 block of 8th Street NE, two blocks south of campus, early in the morning of May 25. An alert from the University Emergency Management office said no CUA community members were involved in the incident.
According to a D.C. Police report, an officer on patrol was flagged down by a person who had found the shooting victim in the entrance to an apartment building. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital.
The police report said two witnesses were later met by the shooting suspect, who used their phone to call 911 and “report a self-defense shooting.” Police have not yet determined whether the shooting was justified. A gun was found at the scene.
Then, early in the morning of May 29, MPD said three Black males committed a robbery in the 1100 block of Michigan Ave. NE, a few blocks east of campus. A CUA alert email said no campus community members were involved.
The suspects fled the scene wearing black hoodies and masks. It is unclear what was taken and whether a firearm was involved.
