Welcome to the weekly crime blotter. Activity was up this week in the area, including a scooter theft from campus property. Thefts and burglaries continued to plague the area, especially on 12th Street, and drug activity continued as well. On March 26, MPD officers made a significant drug discovery after a routine call led to the arrest of a drug dealer just off campus on Taylor Street.

March 25

Commercial Burglary: 200 bl. Michigan Ave., NE (3:04 a.m.)

March 26

Drug Distribution: 1200 bl. Taylor St., NE. Officers found a subject asleep in his car. After searching the vehicle, officers found over 1,100 Oxycodone pills, illegal amounts of Marijuana and other Cannabis products, over $8,700 in cash, and drug paraphernalia. 23-year old Simmeone Barnes was arrested and charged with Possession With Intent To Distribute Marijuana, Possession With Intent To Distribute A Controlled Substance, No Permit, and Resisting Arrest (9:50 a.m.)
Threats: 5000 bl. 8th St., NE. 38-year old Jason Kittrell was arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Threats To Do Bodily Harm related to a case in November 2024. He pleaded not guilty (4:15 p.m.)

Commercial Burglary: 3900 bl. 12th St., NE (overnight)
Theft: 3700 bl. 12th St., NE
Motor Vehicle Theft: 1000 bl. Newton St., NE (10:40 a.m.)
Theft: 600 bl. Michigan Ave., NE. An electric scooter was stolen from campus (9:10 a.m.)

March 28

Motor Vehicle Theft: 4500 bl. Fort Totten Dr., NE
Theft: 4300 bl. Harewood Rd., NE (6:30 a.m.)
Theft from Residence: 3600 bl. 12th St., NE (3:27 p.m.)
Assault: 1300 bl. Jackson St., NE. 22-year old Jabari Davis was arrested and charged with Simple Assault (4:57 p.m.)

March 29

Theft from Business: 3800 bl. 12th St., NE (6:56 p.m.)
Motor Vehicle Theft: 900 bl. Jackson St., NE (5:21 p.m.)
DUI: 900 bl. Michigan Ave., NE. 27-year old Atemkeng Tazi was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence – 1st Offense (3:42 p.m.)

March 30

Theft from Auto: 4300 bl. Harewood Rd., NE (5:40 p.m.)
Assault: Unit bl. Hawaii Ave., NE. Following an altercation, 25-year old Miguel Merino was arrested and charged with Simple Assault. He has pleaded not guilty (3:41 a.m.)

March 31

Assault: 100 bl. Michigan Ave., NE. 62-year old Stephanie Jackson was arrested and charged with Simple Assault (9:40 p.m.)
