While football fans tuned in to see the Eagles demolish the Chiefs during the Super Bowl, others tuned in to see what new commercials would air in between the big game. This article highlights the little spots that tease upcoming releases like F1 or full-length trailers for Thunderbolts*. While there may have been fewer movie trailers released than usual, there were still a good number of them worth mentioning.

Coming in the first week of May, the Thunderbolts* is the first MCU crossover since Avengers: Endgame that unites the dirtiest of the bunch Marvel has to offer. This new trailer showcased more of the characters like Yelena, Bucky and Red Guardian as they all team together in hopes of finding some sort of redemption. The trailer also gave audiences their first look at the film’s main villain: Sentry!

Though it was only a thirty-second TV spot, we finally got a new look at the upcoming Mission: Impossible film with Tom Cruise. Initially billed as a send off to Cruise’s character, the film will wrap up the lingering threads from Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning as Ethan’s team hunts to find the Sevastopol in order to destroy the Entity. The teaser’s aspect ratio expands throughout the duration of the teaser until it fills the screen with the IMAX footage, though sadly not much new footage is presented here.

Coming seven months after the first teaser was released, we were treated to a new TV spot that highlights Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One racing movie. The movie is brought to us from the creative team behind Top Gun: Maverick, even filming in the actual racing pits and stadiums during the Formula One racing season. The teaser gave us a fresh new look at the film, making audiences more excited to see what the film has to offer us this summer.

Lilo & Stitch (Live-Action)

The latest installment in Disney’s growing collection of live-action remakes, Lilo & Stitch has not yet had a full-length trailer released despite it having a set release date in May. We have mostly seen ads and TV spots that pay homage to the marketing of the original film. The Big Game spot was very hilarious to watch and does generate some excitement to see how this film will ultimately turn out.

How to Train Your Dragon (Live-Action)

Just when you thought Disney was the only supplier of live-action remakes, Dreamworks has now thrown their hat in the ring with an updated version of How to Train Your Dragon. Brought to us from one of the original directors (Dean Deblois), the new TV spot gave audiences some new footage of how eerily close this looks to the original animated film. It showcases glimpses of the original’s more famous scenes while never afraid to show how beautifully realistic the dragons look here.

Jurassic World: Rebirth

After showcasing the beauty of humanity with his film the Creator, director Gareth Edwards dropped retirement to team up with original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Keopp for a brand new adventure. Though the official trailer dropped a few days ahead of the superbowl, they still had a one-minute spot reserved during the game for it. It more or less rehashed elements of the actual trailer but does showcase much of the awe and beauty that previous installments have been lacking these past few years.

Smurfs

Coming almost eight years since the release of Smurfs: The Lost Village, audiences got their first look at the new upcoming film featuring Rihanna as Smurfette. Like Jurassic World: Rebirth, the new Smurfs movie had its trailer dropped a few days before the big game to generate more excitement for the film. The trailer showcased the film’s animated characters returning to the real world to save Papa Smurf from the wrath of Gargamel and his evil brother. The film seemingly draws from the 2011 Smurfs movie with Neil Patrick Harris, though the trailer’s animation may just be the fresh coat of paint covering it up so far.

Whether it goes the same direction that film went or not, audiences will ultimately find out when it comes to theaters this summer. Though there were certainly fewer trailers this year compared to others, a good number of them certainly generated some excitement among audiences and all point to a certainly busy summer for moviegoers this year.
