By Angela Hickey
Are you tired of listening to the same 10 songs over and over again? Do you enjoy the ukulele? If so, then this is the artist for you.
Dodie, birth name Dodie Clark, is a 24 year-old YouTube cover artist, turned professional singer and songwriter who comes from Epping, Essex in the United Kingdom. She originally began her music career by creating her main music channel, doddleoddle, in early 2011 by uploading an original song called “Rain.”
Since then, she has amassed a following of 1.86 million subscribers on her main channel and over 128 million views on her YouTube channel. Since then, she has collaborated with many other artists including fellow YouTube personalities, Orla Gartland and Thomas Sanders. She also collaborated with British singer-songwriter, Tom Walker, on her latest EP, Human, released in early 2019. Over the course of her career, dodie has released 3 EP’s — Intertwined (2016), You (2017), and her most recent EP, Human (2019) — which all charted within the top 40 of the official UK Albums Chart.
Her music, classified as a mix between pop, acoustic, folk, and indie, are well identified by its light melodies juxtaposed by their emotionally complex lyrics. Covering many of her personal experiences with topics such as mental health and coming to terms with her bisexuality, she has never shied away from expressing herself with her music.
In early 2019, she revealed she would be apart of the new series, “Moominvalley,” a 2019 Finnish-British animated family drama series adapted from the books and comics from writer-illustrator Tove Jansson and her brother, Lars Jansson. Her single, “Ready Now”, was featured on the series’ official soundtrack, along with songs from many other artists. Soon after, she released two new singles, “Guiltless” on May 31st, and more recently, “Boys Like You,”which was released on September 27th.
Dodie is currently on tour around the US, with recent stops Nashville, TN and Dallas, TX. Her tour will continue over the course of the next few weeks before finishing in Hollywood, CA on October 11th in the Hollywood Palladium.
She is a personal favorite of mine because of her upbeat music paired with her serious messages. She just likes to make music and have fun, she spreads her message and shows support and love to every one of her friends and fans. She sends a message, and that is why I endorse her music. You can find her songs on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Pandora, Google Play and Amazon Music.
