In the heart of Colombia Heights is the world-renowned vegan bakery, Sticky Fingers Sweets and Eats. This bakery is extremely popular because it has won Cupcake Wars —the television reality series of competing bakers— twice.
Upon walking into the quaint bakery, the aura of this place is something in-between a trendy coffee shop and modern-styled restaurant. The walls are vibrant and colorful, radiating the overall positive energy of the restaurant. There are framed t-shirts and a fluorescent neon sign to decorate the walls. The bakery even has small trinkets that promote the restaurant, as well as quality packaging.
Every option on the menu —from the wheat-free chocolate cupcake, to the cowvin cookie, to the french toast— is completely vegan. The award-winning bakery merely aims to accommodate the means of everyone, making baked goods more than just food and creating an actual holistic experience.

“I don’t usually eat vegan, but I couldn’t even tell the difference between this vegan pancake and normal pancakes,” said freshman Kiera Kenneally. “This may have even been better than normal pancakes.”
A huge benefit of Sticky Fingers Sweets and Eats for college students is that it is both affordable and a great place to do homework. The atmosphere is relaxed enough that you could just get on the metro after class, buy a cupcake and coffee, sit right in front of the window, and study.
Every month, Sticky Fingers Sweets and Eats offers two to three seasonal cupcake flavors. For March, the flavors are the cherry blossom cupcake, the bunny huggers carrot cupcake, and the bourbon stout cupcake.
The bakery is also committed to giving back to the community, choosing one charity every month and creating a cupcake in its honor. With every purchase of the specific cupcake, one dollar is donated to the chosen charity. This month, the restaurant chose the Potomac Conservancy to donate to. This charity is dedicated to helping the environment and conserving the DMV area. The cupcake created in honor of the charity is the almond creme cupcake which is available throughout all of March.
Sticky Fingers Sweets and Eats has been in business for over 20 years, providing completely vegan pastries and beverages. With the mission and motive of Sticky Fingers Sweets and Eats, doors are opening for people who originally thought they could never eat a vegan cupcake or cookie that is actually tasty. This place is truly a game-changer for those who believed that they had to sacrifice taste for nutrition.
