Catholic U’s American Race

The Catholic U’s American Race encouraged all students coming back from spring break to work together and run around campus for a scavenger hunt which made for an engaging, bonding experience for undergraduate student body. This event took place on March 19, from 7:30 to 9:30 in The Pryzbyla Great Rooms This event was a campus-wide scavenger hunt which teams of students had to follow different clues that led them to different parts of the campus. After participants in the hunt realized the location they were supposed to go to on campus, they ran there to a station where a Program Board member is waiting to take a picture with them.
There were people at the beginning of the event strategizing trying to figure out the clues so that they could be the first ones to reach each location, making the event such an interactive and bonding experience.
The patriotic theme was seen in many ways during this event. Students were required to work as a team, rather than as individuals, to encourage students to work together and complete the scavenger hunt. The room was decorated with red, blue, and white lanterns, sunglasses, and bead necklaces which made for fun patriotic pictures. They also provided quintessential American mini apple pies and watermelon for students to enjoy after running around campus. After the event there was a patriotic-themed Kahoot game that kept the laughter and the competitive spirit alive. The event connected the student body because the Student Government Association (SGA) collaborated with Program Board for this event, making students connect with their country, their school, and different members of the student body.
“This event was initially supposed to be the week of SGA elections and it was bumped to today. It is a creative event, to get campus moving,” said Hannah Cundey, a sophomore marketing major at Catholic University. “I am excited that people came even though the event was right after spring break and look so excited to be apart of the event.”
One of the teams participating in the American Race included a sophomore nursing major, Caroline Ciocco. Her team ended up being the runner-up and received a SGA mug, Program Board cup, and mini gold trophy.
“I think the event is a fun and great idea, I love Program Board, I love Scavenger Hunts, I love SGA in it, and I think it’s perfect,” said Ciocco, while racing across campus to win the event.
