Women’s Lacrosse Handles Drew in 21-11 Victory

The Catholic University of America women’s lacrosse team triumphed over Landmark oppoent Drew University by a score of 21-11 on Saturday, April 2nd. The win puts Catholic’s conference record to 2-0, while their overall record is now 4-6.
Nine Cardinals earned points during the conference matchup including freshman Molly Kelly, who scored her first career goal. It was Junior Laura Dunn who led the offensive attack all game. She tallied eight points, with four goals and four assists, while sophomore Nicolette Crisalli followed close behind with six goals and one assist for seven total points of her own.
Catholic got off to the hottest of starts by opening the game with five straight goals in nine minutes. Crisalli slotted the first two of the game followed by and unassisted shot from junior Alexis Bosilovic. Next, Dunn put one between the pipes off a pass from classmate Jenna Van Middelem, who scored the Cards’ fifth goal of the game just 30 seconds later.
Additionally, juniors Anna Stumme and Clair Schmitzer, along with Kelly, scored first half goals for Catholic, giving the Cardinals a 12-3 advantage over the Rangers at the halftime break. It was a comfortable lead they would not relinquish.
Freshman goalkeeper Christina De Cesaris earned her third win of the season, making six saves in 40 minutes in goal for the Cards. Senior Brittnee Frizol and freshman Gabby Cooper both got to spent time guarding the CUA’s cage in the second half.
Junior Allie Bond won 10 draws during the leagues match while Schmitzer scooped up seven ground balls and caused two turnovers.
The Cards return to action Saturday, April 9, when the travel to Randolph-Macon College to take on the Yellow Jackets at 1 PM.
