RELEASE OF THE WEEK: “No More Heroes” by Landmines

This unassuming instrumental EP by the anonymous artist seemed to pick our interest here at Your Week in the Scene. At first, what seems like average MIDI-fied alternative rock quickly turns sideways through the loud, grunge guitars that fill this 15-and-a-half-minute assortment of emotional tracks. The result is a loud, psychedelic, and chilled listening experience that fans of both classic rock and modern alternative would enjoy.

Two shoegaze elites come together on this awesome night. Though it might be expensive (like any show at the Anthem usually is), it is totally worth it for lovers of this style of rock, new and old.

For the younger folk, there is quannnic, the solo producer-guitarist who got famous for their Tik Tok viral combination of grunge and shoegaze through songs like “Life Imitates Life,” “Snarky,” and later, “Comatose.” Now touring with their solo band, quannnic shows a lot of potential in growing in their signature sound, and hopefully uses it to attract mainstream success.

For the older folk, there is slowdive, who needs no introduction for anyone who listens to shoegaze. Famous for their early 90s endeavors, such as the cult classic album Souvlaki, Slowdive perfected the genre defined by artists such as My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins, while strengthening its already established indie-rock sensibilities and storytelling. Now ten years after their unexpected reunion, and one year after their latest album Everything Is Alive, slowdive seeks to prove once and for all that they are the kings of shoegaze as the last remnant of a time gone by.
