To wrap up this year’s exciting Cardinal Week events, here are the top ten options for entertainment on and off campus this weekend.

  1.       Before you head off-campus this weekend, make sure you stay long enough to attend this year’s Homecoming Charity Ball.  The dance, hosted by Campus Ministry, starts at 8pm on Friday, October 19, and this year’s theme is A Night Under the Stars.  It’s Catholic University’s first dance of the year, so you don’t want to miss it.

  1.       Of course, if dances aren’t your thing (and you are over 21), you might consider spending your Friday night at DC’s creepiest new pop-up bar Death Becomes Us. Located at 1839 7th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.  The exclusive bar features “three true crime vignettes dedicated to the Black Dahlia murder, the Salem Witch Trials and the case of Elizabeth Bathory, a Hungarian woman cited by some as the most prolific female serial killer.”  If you’re looking for your Halloween fix, but aren’t so fond of Haunted Houses, this bar might be the perfect option.

  1.       If you happen to be more a of morning person or you feel the need to start your Saturday in a state of zen then head down to the Transit Pier at the Wharf on Saturday October 20 9am-11am  for “Waterfront Workout” hosted by Yoga Factory.  It’s free! But don’t forget to bring your yoga mat.

  1.       The biggest event of the weekend is without a doubt the Catholic University Homecoming Football Game against Springfield!  The game starts at 1pm at the DuFour Center.  Megan Brizzell, a junior classical humanities major and CUA cheerleader said, “What I’m most looking forward to in the game is the energy of the crowd…I think every year the football team gains more traction, so every year more people show up to the game. I’m hoping the crowd continues to grow this year and we have a great turnout! ”

  1.       After the game, or maybe even on Sunday afternoon, you might want to do something new and fun in the city, so you should consider checking out the newly opened Law Enforcement Museum at Judiciary Square.  The Museum pays tribute to our boys in blue and offers a unique interactive and educational experience. The museum’s executive director, Dave Brant, told WTOP-TV, “This facility will help us to educate, inform, create dialogue, around both the history of law enforcement, the current status of law enforcement and some of the tools law enforcement utilizes, and really be a platform for discussion about some of the toughest issues that face our country where law enforcement plays a critical role.”

  1.       On Sunday after a long weekend of having fun Cardinal style, you’re going to want to find the perfect place to have Sunday brunch, and what better place to do that then Founding Farmers listed on the FourSquare City Guide as the best breakfast/brunch spot in DC.

  1.       Of course, if you already have Sunday plans you might want to choose a faster but equally delicious breakfast option.  Drop by District Doughnut to pick up some fall themed doughnuts like Pumpkin Spice Latte Crème Brulee (yes that’s one flavor), Caramel Apple Streusel, Pumpkin Glazed and Maple Butter Pecan.
  1.       Once you have satisfied your morning sweet tooth make sure you don’t forget to pick up your fresh apples and fall décor at the Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market, which is open every Sunday 8:30am-1:30pm all year round.
  1.       And for those of you who haven’t made Sunday plans and prefer to take your day of rest more seriously (but still want to continue the countdown to Halloween), you should know that the final Halloween movie comes out Friday, October 19, and this weekend would be the perfect time to check it out!  And for anyone who is wondering, yes, the series has come full circle and the title of the final movie is in fact just Halloween.
  1.   Last but not least, this weekend is the best time to finally grab or finish that Halloween costume that you’ve either been planning for weeks or still haven’t decided on yet (no judgment).  If that’s case, you might try checking out Total Fright, a specialty Halloween store that boasts competitive prices and unique costume pieces located at the Crystal City Shops Metro Stop.  Go get your spooky on!

We hope your weekend is full of Cardinal spirit and spooky fun!
